I’ve had the privilege of working with The Simply Beloved for a few months now. This month, they had me write an article on whatever was on my heart. I contemplated the topic for a while, and one morning as I was doing a Beth Moore study, her message spoke to me, and I finally discovered what God was wanting me to share. Here we go…

“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” Psalm 8:3-4

Do you ever think about how tiny we are compared to the size of the universe and the amount of people that have walked the earth since the beginning of time? Thinking about the United States is overwhelming enough without throwing in the other six continents, all the planets, and then the billions of stars just in our galaxy alone. But God does not want us to dwell on the thought of insignificance. Let us remember this:

Jesus was sent by God to the world.

God transcended time and space to create a world full of people so that He could love them. Out of all those mysterious planets and stars and galaxies, He sent Jesus to be among us. He made plans and paved futures for us. For God so loved the world… He smothers us with His affection, surrounds us with His blessings, covers us with His grace and mercy. And simply because He wants to. We are His creation. He chose us.

When I start to feel insignificant or get the sense that God forgot me for a day, I try to find verses that explain exactly what His love is like. Psalm 18:35 says, You give me your shield of victory, and Your right hand sustains me; You stoop down to make me great. Think of a mother kneeling down to help her tiny child walk for the first time. The baby is stumbling and falls over and over again, but she remains on the ground until he finally takes those few steps on his own. This is exactly how God is towards us. He stoops down to our level to help us succeed. He doesn’t root for us to fail or give up on us if we can’t get it right at first. He waits lovingly and patiently until we reach success.

When I picture the Father of all creation stopping to stoop down and make me significant, I am humbled. I think of all the areas of my life that His love invites a change of heart. No longer am I alone or a failure or stranded and forgotten. In times that require patience, I’m not restless. In times when I’m rejected, I know I’m being protected from something. If I’m angry or confused or frustrated, I’m not ashamed to admit it and ask for guidance.

Childlike faith requires us to remove any barriers so we can walk closer to Him. He wants us to draw near so that when we do start to feel unimportant, He can remind us that being small doesn’t mean we have no value. The God of the universe stoops down to us and loves us unconditionally. We are His.

Little ones to Him belong, they are weak but He is strong.
